Homeschool and GCSEs?

Questions

I was wondering if you homeschool your child and they never go to school, how do they get the grades to then go into college or university?

Do they have to sit GCSE privately? How does that work? Is there another way?

Someone please explain all of it!

Answer

Many children take IGCSEs as private candidates. They can choose to only sit the ones needed to get to the next step.

The exams can be taken at an exam centre or some schools offer them to outside candidates too. There is a list online of schools and centres. You need to book them in advanced. My biggest piece of advice is look at the different exam boards; AQA, Edexcel, Cambridge or OCR, choose which set of exams you wish to take and then arrange a call with the exam boards. They all have very good websites too, and you will find all the information on there.

Alternatively, some colleges will allow you to do maths and english GSCE alongside their chosen course.
